Kittens Kittens Kittens!!!

One of the things our supporters love about our live CAToberfest event each year is the ability to visit with fun and playful kittens!

Although we are not able to have an in-person event this year, we hope you will enjoy some photos and videos of our adorable foster babies.

In recent years South County Cats has become rather well known on social media for our kittens through word-of-mouth from our wonderful adopters, however it's important to emphasize that we do not breed cats... all of our cats and kittens are rescues, and many of our kittens were born to feral moms. Most importantly, whenever we take kittens, we always facilitate the spay of the mama cat and every cat in the house and the yard!  All of our kittens are spayed vaccinated and microchipped before adoption…

In the case of feral moms, sometimes we get lucky and are able to catch or trap the mama cat before she has her babies, so we are able to raise the kittens in the safety of one of our wonderful foster homes, but all too often we only hear about the kittens after they've been born in the wild and taught to hide from and fear all humans.  Thanks to our wonderful supporters and volunteers, we have the resources required to find and recover those kittens, give them the care they need, and allow our foster volunteers to “love the fear out of them” providing the all-important socialization required for them to be adopted to wonderful furrever homes.

Here is a short video of what we refer to as a "textbook" TNR job where three adults and four kittens were trapped in three days.

The ideal window for taming a feral kitten is between five and eight weeks old.  Although older kittens can be tamed, it is much more challenging and they often remain very shy and may never become completely friendly, so we go to great lengths to find just the perfect adopters who will give these babies the space they need to adjust to their new homes and in their own time, become the loving companions they were destined to be.

This is a photo of Maramba the day she was captured two months ago at an industrial site down in Tukwila.  She was significantly past the ideal age for taming, but thanks to the dedicated efforts of our wonderful foster volunteer, she warmed up enough to be adopted into a wonderful home and did not have to live out her life as a feral cat.

Below is the update we received from Maramba's adopter last week.  Marama and Windy had never met until they were adopted together. Marama was shy and Windy very outgoing. Turns out they are a perfect match!

Also, check us out on Facebook and Instagram for many more kitten pictures and stories like this awesome rescue of a litter of tiny precious kittens rescued last month by one of our volunteers.
